How the right sunscreen can prevent aging and hyperpigmentation
If grandma has not shared this secret with you yet, fret not that is what I am here for. Dermatologists swear by it, makeup artists start with it and we most often just forget it leaving our skin open to the effects of harmful UV rays.
Most of us blindly assume that wearing sunscreen is limited to those sunny beach days or that mid sunday picnic. Not many of us understand the benefits of sunscreen and we all hate the white cast on the skin.
So why is sunscreen so important?
Here are 4 reasons why and a small tip to deal with white cast at the end of this post.
- UVA exposure causes skin damage
Yes , you read it right. UV rays passing through our windows become UVA rays that are as damaging as UV rays themselves. This is why it is so important to lather on the sunscreen whether you are indoors or outdoors. Not doing so can cause premature aging and skin damage.
- Appearance of Sunspots
Noticing brown spots on your skin that randomly appeared out of nowhere, well that is exactly what exposure to the sun does. These spots most often called age spots are a result of hyperpigmentation that is caused by the sun’s rays.
- Propensity for Skin Cancer
Our chances of getting skin cancer can be lowered considerably by using sunscreen. CDC recommends a SPF 15 or SPF 30 to start with to ensure our skin is well protected.
- Evens Skin tone and reduces sunburn
Who does not want an even glowing skin tone and it’s not that hard to achieve , if you make just one addition to your skin care routine: Sunscreen. It also doesn’t matter what tone your skin is, deeper skin tones or us brown skin girls may not get sunburn easily but we can still get wrinkles and dark spots.
This also refutes the myth that only fairer skin tones need to use sunscreen. We are all susceptible to skin damage.
Finally, how do we deal with the dreadful white cast, I have the perfect solution.
There are a number of sunscreens in the market which can be used under makeup and do not cause a white cast, blending effortlessly into the skin.
Here is the one I personally swear by :
Supergoop Unseen Sunscreen
Scentless , no white cast, reef safe and completely invisible – this foundation is my top favorite plus its SPF40 .
If you are in the market for more sunscreens do check out my other post. It is quite detailed and trust me my cultians worth the read!
That is about it for now, don’t forget your sunscreen and thank me later!
